Biodegradable plastics are plastics produced from renewable resources and break down easily in the environment. Biodegradable plastics are becoming more popular as global warming is getting worst every day. These biodegradable plates are actually able to break down 60%-90% in just 60-180 days in a compost setting.
These 9" biodegradable PLA plastic plates are perfect for your next meal. Suitable for hot or cold dishes, lightweight, and durable.
Only available as a case of 200.
Our products are US FDA approved (Cert No. 11029297104) and BPI Certified.
Biodegradable plastics are plastics produced from renewable resources and break down easily in the environment. Biodegradable plastics are becoming more popular as global warming is getting worst every day. Leaders from all around the world are spending unlimited resources to locate solutions with global warming. Biodegradable products have been greatly welcome all around the world. They are well known for being able to break down a lot faster than traditional plastics. Biodegradable plastics have become increasingly common in our daily lives and replace lots traditional plastic products. Biodegradable plastics are actually able to break down 60%-90% in just 60-180 days in a compost setting.
Biodegradable plastics can be broken down relatively easily because they are being made of renewable resources. Biodegradable plastics are broken down via microorganisms and decompose into H2O and CO2. Traditional plastics contain longer chains of tightly bonded polymers, thus its less decomposable. One of the main components in biodegradable plastics is corn concentrate. This concentrate is then tested at different temperatures to determine the sturdiest, yet biodegradable, product. Since this product is made from raw material, it is easily broken down in a composting facility.
Another component in biodegradable plastics is cornstarch. Starch is developed through the photosynthesis of plants and it is a substance of granular carbohydrates. Starch is water soluble, but it can be modified into a less soluble polymer by microorganisms. These microorganisms can then transform the starch into lactic acid. Once this is done, the lactic acid is chemically treated so it links into polymer chains. These chains, however, are not as tightly bonded as the traditional plastic that leads to easier breakdown of these substances.
Corn plastics are plastics made from polyactide (PLA or PSM). Unlike regular plastic, which are made from petroleum, corn plastic products look and feel just like regular plastic, but they are 100% biodegradable and compositable. Corn is a renewable resource which makes corn plastics much more sustainable than regular plastic.
Disintegration is measured by sieving the material to determine the biodegraded size and less than 10% should remain on a 2mm screen for most standards.
Eco-toxicity is measured by having concentrations of heavy metals below the limits set by the standards and by testing plant growth by mixing the controlled compost.
