Green Home introduces a surge protector that not only offers excellent power surge protection and noise filtering, but lowers electric bills! When devices, such as computers, are plugged into the control outlet, the power strip is able to 'sense' the flow of electrical current through the strip's control outlet. This unique feature enables the Smart Strip to turn off selected equipment when its not in use, saving you money and time!
Amazing huh? So, how does it work? A small electronic device inside the Smart Strip monitors the current on a single outlet. The computer is plugged into that single outlet. When the computer is finished shutting down, the current draw from the computer drops to its idle current -- and the Smart Strip senses the current change, automatically shutting off all of the computer peripherals.

This 7 outlet Smart Strip surge protector has 1 Control Outlet, 2 Constant Hot Outlets and 4 Switched Outlets.
- Control Outlet: This is the 'master switch' for devices plugged into the Switched Outlets (see below). When the device plugged into the control outlet is turned on or off or even goes into sleep mode, the devices plugged into the switched outlets will turn on or off accordingly.
- Constant Hot Outlets: These outlets fuction just like the outlets on a regular power strip; they remain powered as long as the power switch is on, and are not switched by the Control Outlet.
- Automatically Switched Outlets: These outlets are controlled by the device plugged into the Control Outlet. Devices plugged into these outlets will automatically turn on or off when the device plugged into the control outlet is turned on or off.
There are three different models in the SCG Smart Strip Series. All have a joule rating of 1250 joules.
- SCG3 is known as the standard model, which has just the 7 outlets as described.
- SCG4, which in addition to the 7 outlets has an "in" and "out" spot for a phone line to be attached, providing surge protection for a fax line, for example.
- SCG5, which in addition to the 7 outlets and the phone line surge protection (like the SCG4) has an "in" and "out" spot for a coax cable to be attached, providing surge protection for a TV cable box, for example.

How much can you possibly save by using this device? Here's the math:
Approximately 15%, or $300, of the $2,000 an average American household spends on household energy costs goes to power consumer electronics. The US Department of Energy estimates that 75% of the electricity used to power home electronics is consumed while the products are turned off!
