The TaterWare 6400 Cutlery Series, on the other hand, is compostable according to ASTM D 6400 standards. This product is not designed to degrade in a landfill since it is specifically intended to be commercially composted. Please check with your local composting facility to find out if it accepts Taterware products for composting.
Taterware cutlery offers three different series of utensils:
- Taterware Standard Cutlery Series: These products are proven to be landfill-degradable, imposing no adverse effects on the surrounding atmosphere, soil, or water. This capability is due to high level of bio-based content. Please note that though the Taterware Regular Cutlery Series is bio-based and eco-friendly, it is not a compostable series.
- Taterware Heavy Duty Series: The Heavy Duty Series is made from the same eco-friendly and bio-based material as the Regular cutlery series, but has bigger dimensions for customers looking for a premium utensil. The knife, which is 6.5 inches in the Regular Cutlery series, is 7.25 inches as a Heavy Duty utensil. Regular Cutlery series forks measure 6 inches while they are a length of 6.75 inches in the Heavy Duty series. All utensils in the Heavy Duty Series are also slightly thicker than the Regular Cutlery Series.
- Taterware 6400 Cutlery Series: Compostable according to ASTM D-6400 standards. Specifically intended to be commercially composted. Although this series does comply with the compostable standards, it has not yet been BPI certified. It is available in beige or green color.
TaterWare products are made with potatoes!
- Yes, potatoes. TaterWare has created a unique biopolymer resin from potato starch that is heated and formed into sturdy food service products like cutlery, plates, clamshells, bowls, and more, using the same normal injection molding techniques as plastics. This patented plant material product is free of genetically modified organics (GMO) and provides discerning customers with an annually renewable alternative to non-biodegradable plastics and polystyrene.
