How to dissolve Soap Flakes in water:
- The hotter the water the easier to completely dissolve the Pure Soap Flakes.
- If using cold water, pre-soak the Pure Soap Flakes until soft, then mix.
- More Soap Flakes and less water will create a thicker more soapy mixture.
- Fewer Soap Flakes and more water creates a thinner less soapy mixture.
Directions for most cleaning and washing:
- Mix about 1/2 cup Pure Soap Flakes to a gallon of hot water.
- Mix thoroughly or agitate in washer. Let cool for cold water washing.
- Refer to fabric or product washing instructions. Test in a small area.
- Always rinse well with clean water. Dry accordingly.
How to Wash Your Woollens:
- Prepare : Completely dissolve Pure Soap Flakes in bucket or basin by pouring a bit of boiling water over a small handful of them. Add cold water and make lukewarm sudsy water.
- Launder : Place garment in the lukewarm sudsy water. Move and squeeze the garment gently through the sudsy water. Do not rub or leave to soak, this will fray or weaken the wool fibers. Give extra attention to soiled areas by gently massaging with fingertips and moving sudsy water through the area until dirt has lifted. Always support garment when wet.
- Rinse : Thoroughly and completely rinse with clean, lukewarm water. This will take a few, maybe more, exchanges of clean water. Add a ΒΌ cup of white vinegar in the second to final rinse water to ensure there will be no soap residue by neutralizing any that might remain. Rinse again with clean lukewarm water. Squeeze gently to remove excess water without wringing or twisting to retain the original shape and size of the garment.
- Dry : Lay garment flat on clean thick towel and roll up. Apply pressure and squeeze, pressing as much of the water out as possible. Lay garment flat to air dry on clean dry towel. Ease the garment back to its original shape and size. Avoid excessive or direct heat. Do not hang, always dry flat. Never put wet wool in an automatic dryer, it will shrink.
Do NOT use : too hot of water, too much soap, too much rubbing, too much soaking, too much vinegar, too little rinsing, too little love.
Never use bleach on wool. If you need a bleaching procedure, hydrogen peroxide can be used gingerly. The minerals in your water, if you have hard (alkaline) water, can also damage wool fibers.
Wool is a protein fiber and attracts critters such as moths. A natural and safe way to repel such a nuisance, and possible degradation of your garment, is to use 100% essential oils such as basil, bay, cedar, eucalyptus, lavender, pennyroyal, rosemary, or tansy.
The key ingredients in Green/Traditional Cleaning are: Pure Soap Flakes, baking soda, borax, washing soda, hydrogen peroxide and vinegar. They can be used alone or combined for a more specific and gregarious washing mixture that is toxin free and environmentally friendly.
- Pure Soap Flakes : (soap), the molecules in soap attract dirt and grease on one end and are water soluble on the other end, forcing dirt out.
- Baking Soda : (sodium bicarbonate), a sodium salt. Perfect for deodorizing, softening water and scouring.
- Borax : (hydrated sodium borate) sodium and boron, a naturally occurring mineral. It can be used for disinfecting, cleaning, deodorizing, and whitening.
- Hydrogen Peroxide : (H2O2) a naturally produced weak acidic liquid with strong oxidizing properties. A bleaching agent, disinfectant and antiseptic.
- Washing Soda : (sodium carbonate), is related to baking soda and is much more powerful. It cuts through grease and oil, softens water, and disinfects.
- Vinegar : a sour liquid containing acetic acid. It's the acid that cuts through grease and kills germs.

- Our Pure Soap Flakes and Pure Soap Bars are meant for sensitive skin, pets, and natural fibers. They also work fabulously for water proof fibers such as GOR-TEX. They can be mixed with other natural products to create a variety of 'green' cleaning solutions. There is no end to the uses of our products.
Our Pure Laundry Powder is a mixture that utilizes our signature Pure Soap Flakes ground to a flour like consistency as the base. Our powder is then blended with a special formulation of borax, baking soda, and washing soda. Pure Laundry Powder works in most water conditions and cleans naturally. It can be used for everyday laundry and everywhere cleaning.
The process for Pure Soap Flakes production takes 12 weeks and is as follows:
- Make the soap with our signature vegetable oil formula with an end result of perfect pH neutral 7(same as purified water).
- Mold the soap in to 40 pound blocks.
- Naturally cure the soap for 10 weeks.
- Shave the soap into tissue thin ribbons with our proprietary shaver
- Air dry the shaved soap ribbons - preparing them to flake.
- Flake the dried soap ribbons with our proprietary flaker
- Air dry the soap flakes further to achieve a concentration of pure soap (we anticipate implementing a wood dry kiln).
- We manufacture from scratch in a climate controlled environment in Pine River, Minnesota.
We use only the purest of "fair trade farmed" Midwest (mostly Minnesota) soybean oil, Malaysian coconut oil and purified lye/water. Even though we use sodium hydroxide (lye) for saponification (soap making) reaction of an alkali (base) with a fat or oil to produce soap, there is absolutely no residue of any kind in the final product making it completely biodegradable and toxin free. Our Pure Soap product is gentle and kind enough for extremely sensitive skin types, antique fabrics, and furniture. It will not strip out natural oils. It is wonderful for babies and pets. It is used on show dogs and horses for a beautiful coat with no irritation to eyes or mucous membranes.
Our Pure Soap Flakes are perfect for making liquid soaps. Simply add purified water for a desired viscosity. Natural soaps that are made to be liquid from the start, such as Dr. Bronner's and Murphy's Oil, use Potassium Hydroxide for saponification and have remaining residue in the end product. That residue can be harmful to sensitive skin and can also build up in natural fibers such as wool and wood causing fraying and dryness over time.
Pure Soap Flakes can be combined with other natural cleaning products that are easily found in the USA such as borax, baking soda, and washing soda to make a variety of more gregarious "green" cleaners. Essential oils can be added for fragrance and to create a multitude of natural anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-viral, mold and mildew killers that leave the normal, and necessary, bacterial flora intact.
Our Pure Laundry Powder is mixed for you and is affordable luxury. It is favorable for drains, septics, and waterways.
We are very proud of our products and would love to have you as a customer. We appreciate you taking the time to review our product information and giving us the opportunity to earn your business.
