This soap is a pure castille soap and all true castille soaps are slightly alkaline. However this is largely irrelevalent as it is not going to cause any irritation and it is not an issue for skin. Generally speaking terms such as hypoallergenic and the like are marketing hype. It is this alkalinity in natural soaps that allow them to not use perservatives.
