Usable with rechargeable batteries or solar panels, the ATS 505P has the right combination of features to make it the perfect "first" shortwave receiver. It is a high quality, portable shortwave radio with single sideband reception (SSB) at an excellent price. The 505 has superb AM/FM reception, and gives you continuous shortwave coverage from 1.711 to 29.999 kHz. You can tune to a frequency with the direct keypad entry, through auto or manual scan, memory recall or by dialing it in with the conventional rotary tuner. The 505 has many features that you would typically find only in larger, more expensive portable radios: digital tuning 45 memory presets, automatic memory search and store, external antenna jack, stereo headphone jack, tone control, backlit LCD display, and a dual time clock with alarm (radio and buzzer).
