You can run the radio off the built-in rechargeable batteries or 3 "AA" alkaline batteries, although we recommend rechargable batteries. But the best part is, if you don't have batteries around, just wind-up the radio and keep it running as long as you need. There's also a stereo headphone jack for private listening.
You can even use it to charge a cell phone! This radio includes cell phone adapters for the most popular, recent models. Certain cell models, like a Blackberry, require a second or two of vigorous cranking to initialize the charge circuit on the phone. After that initial effort, you can crank at a normal pace.
