Green Home Celebrates Earth Day With Its
"Screw In An Environmentally Friendly Light Bulb" Campaign.
San Francisco - Green Home, the environmental superstore, announced today the kick off of its "Screw In An Environmentally Friendly Light Bulb" campaign. In honor of Earth Day, 2003 Green Home is mounting this campaign to make it fun, attractive and easy for Americans to replace their incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs).
Earth Day 2003 tackles the difficult problem of how to allow for economic growth while protecting the environment. ""Earth Day is the perfect vehicle to make Americans aware of what we can do at home," says Lawrence Comras, Green Home CEO. "So we decided to create an ad that captures people imaginations." The campaign features the "screw in a light bulb" slogan with a stylized graphic of a couple embracing inside a light bulb. "We thought America was ready for a little humor from the environmentalist camp," said Comras.
Compact fluorescents are those funny looking bulbs that you might have seen tucked away in the corner of the hardware store. They carry a hefty price tag, often costing upwards of $10 for a single bulb. Green Home will be making top quality bulbs available for $5 for a limited time.
Though most of us would balk at shelling out that much cash for a light bulb, the compact fluorescent is likely to pay for itself five fold in reduced utility bills. And if every household in America replaced just one incandescent bulb with a compact fluorescent, we could spare the air over 27,000,000,000 pounds of CO2 per year and save the amount of energy generated by thirty six 350 megawatt power plants.
"Saving the amount of energy generated by thirty six power plants is the same thing as building thirty six power plants," says Comras. "We're hoping to inspire Americans to screw in a light bulb and change the status quo."
