glycol ether
Glycol ether is a name for a large group of chemicals found in some household cleaning products, paints, perfumes and cosmetics. They range from relatively nontoxic to extremely toxic, and can be absorbed easily through the skin. They can cause irritation of the skin, eyes, nose and throat, and some can damage the kidney, liver, reproductive system, and central nervous system. Glycol ethers have caused birth defects and reproductive problems in test animals.
