Which Eco Cleansers
Work?
All Purpose Cleaners
Soap Works At Home All Purpose Cleaner -
32 oz. $2.59
At Home comes in an attractive, easy to use spray bottle and smells
like rosemary or tea tree oil. It removed fingerprints and scuff marks
from flat paint with re-application and did well on light mildew, but
left a visible residue that had to be rinsed with water.
Earth Rite All Purpose Cleaner - 22
oz. $3.29
This is the same poorly designed bottle used for the Earth Rite tile
cleaner and glass cleaner. The scent is mild green apple and the liquid
wipes away easily. Mildew stains and smudges on flat paint required
re-application and elbow grease.
Citra-Solv Concentrated Cleaner & Degreaser
- 8 oz. $4.69
This is a concentrated liquid which must be diluted with water. It has
a powerful orange scent and although it is made with natural citrus
extracts and biodegradable cleaning agents, Citra-Solv is a combustible
liquid and dangerous to ingest. It was comparable to the other all-purpose
cleaners in most circumstances, but as the concentration increased,
so did its effectiveness. At full strength, it even removed ground-in
carpet stains. It is featured in the
Green Home store.
Planet All Purpose Cleaner - 22 oz.
$2.99
This spray bottle is well designed and a joy to use. The liquid is truly
unscented and it cleaned most surfaces including high-traffic carpeted
areas.
Summary
Most of these products produced excellent results. Planet was the easiest
to use and if you are going to be cleaning for a while, unscented Planet
or mildly-scented Earth Rite may be the easiest to tolerate. Save Citro-Solv
for your next oil spill. At full strength, Citra-Solv out performed
the others but was sometimes tough to be around.
