E. coli is a bacterium that lives in the digestive tracts of humans and animals. Although most types of E. coli are harmless, the most common type, E. coli 0157:H7, can lead to kidney failure in humans. A common place E. coli is found is in water. People may become infected when their water supply has not been properly treated with chlorine.

All tests are conducted by using EPA-approved methods and meet all EPA, State and certification agencies requirements.   Simply ship your sample to the lab in the original sample box.

Sample Collection for E-Coli in Water

*Note: It is recommended that the sample be taken mid-afternoon and shipped back to the laboratory overnight with the ice pack. To meet state and laboratory QA/QC requirements, the sample must be received within 24 hours of sampling.

- Wear the gloves provided in the kit prior to starting the sampling procedure. - Break the seal on the bottle and remove the cap, being careful as to not touch the cap from the inside.
- If the water is being collected from a faucet, unscrew the screen and aerator from the tap, sterilize the faucet with an alcohol wipe, and allow the water to flow for 10 minutes.
- Carefully collect the sample, making sure to fill the bottle to the 100 mL marked line, but not above. Secure the cap on the bottle.
- Complete the chain of custody form and place sample, ice pack, and completed chain of custody form inside the original box. Place the box inside of the enclosed shipper bag to be sent to the lab.

You will receive your analytical results within 3 days after the sample is received.

Note: Place ice pack into freezer for at least 24 hours prior to shipping sample back to the lab.
