Scientists Take Climate Change Report Into Their Own Hands

In a world where a small sector of very powerful people in powerful positions still refuse to accept the irrevocable evidence of study after study showing climate change, scientists have finally taken their own measures.

Science Coup

With the current U.S. administration putting capitalism over citizen health, many researchers believe current climate change research will be ignored or buried. This is similar to when certain government party affiliates during the 1980’s refused to accept the science behind the ramifications of acid rain and the ozone layer. Kicking the can down the road was the intent so as to protect corporate fiscal interest threatened by potential policy change. As a result, it took significantly longer to address and remedy these issues leaving environmental distress and human health risks in its wake.

Today, the same government parties and corporate interests are refusing to accept climate change but time is something we do not have. Many refuse to believe the skepticism by continuing to support green practices such as the ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ protocol as well as purchasing compostable products, implementing green home improvement and slowly crossing over to Eco-friendly business supplies.

However, scientists are banding together with their own agenda. Although societal efforts are applauded, scientists feel it is essential to get the word out about new climate change info that your government may not want you to know.

The Concern

A recent draft of a federal climate change report went public before being reviewed by the federal government. Some say the report had been available for months and others claim it was leaked to The New York Times.

Either way, the concern was that the government would edit or quash the report due to non-support for the subject of climate change. A valid concern given past sentiments.

It was revealed by MSNBC that the current American president,

“has argued that climate science is part of a massive conspiracy cooked up by the Chinese to undermine the free-enterprise system. He also appointed an EPA administrator who appears aggressively hostile to the agency and its work.”

What’s In It?

Reports on climate change are released all the time citing not only negative effects but also remedies such as solar and energy efficiency. However, this report is alleged to be more straightforward.

According to the study published in The New York Times,

“The average temperature in the United States has risen rapidly and drastically since 1980, and recent decades have been the warmest of the past 1,500 years, according to a sweeping federal climate change report awaiting approval...Americans are feeling the effects of climate change right now...”

Also, the study mentions new research based on something called “attribution science” which the LA Times describes,

“In the past, scientists have been reticent to tie specific severe weather events to overall climate change. But the report says scientists are now able to draw some direct connections with varying degrees of certainty between climate change and such events as heat waves in Europe in 2003 and Australia in 2013. It also links human-propelled climate change with a decrease in the number of cool nights across the United States since the 1960s and an increase in the number of warm days since the 1980s.”

The report comments,

“It is extremely likely that human influence has been the dominant cause of the observed warming since the mid-20th century, For the warming over the last century, there is no convincing alternative explanation supported by the extent of the observational evidence.”

Overall, the news, opinions and actual report itself should be irrelevant. Regardless of whether one does or doesn’t believe in climate change, it seems pretty apparent that something needs to address our unpredictable, mercurial weather patterns.

Standing idle by could be a catastrophic mistake.
