Now is the Hour to Go Dark: March 25th, 8:30-9:30 pm

As our congressional leaders wrestle with a variety of ebbs and flows from the current commander-in-chief, climate change along with many other environmental issues, are falling to the wayside like a boat with a leak. This is why Earth Hour, in its 10th year, is more important than ever.

It is a call to the switch like a call to arms where everyone on the planet including corporations, landmarks and entire cities will volunteer to shut off electricity for one hour on March 25th, 8:30-9:30 pm.

According to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) which sponsors this massive effort,

“Earth Hour will stand directly for our commitment to protecting the future of our planet and the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement.”

From the Ground Up

Conceptualized in Sydney, Australia 2007, Earth Hour has mobilized millions into joining this grassroots effort that has become the world’s largest environmental movement to date.

Some notable results of Earth Hour as reported by WWF include:

  • The San Francisco Golden Gate bridge and the Colosseum in Rome have gone dark
  • Russia passed a law to protect its oceans from oil pollution
  • Argentina passed a Senate bill to create a 3.4 million hectare marine protected area in the country
  • The Galapagos Islands, a UNESCO World Heritage site, became the first province in Ecuador to pass a law prohibiting disposable plastic shopping bags and expanded polystyrene packaging
  • 172 countries and territories participated in Earth Hour with over 620,000 actions taken to change climate change

Play Green

Musicians unite as earth Hour offers a live feed of your music to support the cause.

“WWF is inviting artists to broadcast live sets to their fans around the world during Earth Hour 2017. At 8:30 p.m. your local time on Saturday, March 25, through Facebook Live or a live channel of your choice, turn up the tunes using #EarthHourLive. All day, we will be looking to share and amplify some of the best musical sets we see. As the world turns up the dark, we’re hoping that you will turn up the volume on climate action. Let us know you are participating and find out more about going live for Earth Hour.”

Mobilize Your Circle, Mobilize Your Government

With this easy act you can educate those of the big picture that can be a part of possibly having them think twice about their part in supporting the planet. It is no longer about putting our faith in governmental powers but taking matters into our own hands, just as the founders of Earth Hour did ten years ago.

Action is way better than arguing and once you can sway those around you then your next challenge will be getting as many to go to Washington for the People’s Climate Change March on Saturday, April 29th. A peaceful uprising to bring to task those this country has put in decision making roles but seem to have vested interests in mind.

Only the waking giant of the people can remind these inexperienced people attempting to lead our country that they are in their positions because of the people, not the other way around.

Join Earth Hour and mobilize your circle to do the same. Each year it grows, with millions more simply shutting their lights for one hour. Yet, it has gone beyond this for many and with your participation comes an opportunity to raise awareness surrounding you. It's the easiest way to get those involved that may be dragging their feet when it comes to climate change. Start with Earth Hour to send out your beacon of light, by shutting it off.
