Green To Do Checklist: Your 12 Month Call to Action Challenge for the New Year
Now is the time to start planning your 12 month call to action challenge for the New Year. Choose from these simple tasks and do one each month, or dare yourself to do two or more each month, or if you want to really impress do as many as you can every month! Make this year the year you change not only your own life but make a difference for others as well.
Organize and De-clutter your Kitchen
Replace plastic canisters with glass or stainless steel. These are nonporous, don’t absorb food and germs (like plastic can) and are safely washed at high temperatures. While you’re at it, add in a kitchen composter starter kit too.
Find a Greener Way to Clean
Get rid of toxic home cleaning supplies that can leave behind harmful residue and poison public water systems. Replace with an enzyme multipurpose cleaner, Biokleen liquid dish soap and an EcoDiscoveries Kitchen Kit.
Donate an Hour of Time to a Local Charity
Don’t settle for expensive, GMO, pesticide laced vegetables, start your own organic garden instead. Try some Seedballz herbs, Neptune’s Organic Seaweed Fertilizer and even an electric grow mat to get your harvest going.
Plan a Stay-cation and Appreciate Where You Live
Familiarity is often taken for granted. Plan a stay-cation and support local museums, galleries, mom-n-pop stores, musical venues, parks, farm stands and any other nearby attraction. You’ll be surprised at what you find right under your nose.
Test Your Air and Water for Safety and Better Health
You may not realize how toxic your atmosphere just may be. Take advantage of current technology and get yourself an indoor air quality test kit, E. Coli bacteria kit and lead in water test kit. Then stay safe with an AllerAir Air Purifier and Dolton Water Filter.
Upgrade Your Mattress
Aches, pains and even allergies can result from a mattress over ten years old. Upgrade to a PureGrow Wool or a Keetsa mattress made with natural materials for a comfortable, safe slumber.
Eat Healthy: Choose What's in Season
Lower your carbon footprint and enhance your body’s natural cleansing and healing abilities by choosing local, in-season produce. Get creative with weekly farm to table recipes.
Capture grey water from your sink to water plants, set up a rain catchment barrel for gardening and cleaning needs and change your shower head to an Oxygenics Vortex to keep your water conservation going.
Chart your waste and work on reducing it. Go from disposable and toxic to reusable and rechargeable; buy second hand instead of new; use compostable bags, cling wrap and Vegware; set up an outdoor composter.
Meet Your Neighbors
Step out of your bubble and meet a new neighbor. Whether you’ve lived in your home for one month or fifty years, there has to be at least one new person you can connect with. Remember, Vice-president Hubert Humphrey said, “The impersonal hand of government can never replace the helping hand of a neighbor.”
Learn Something New and Then Teach It to Someone
The famous Chinese proverb goes, “Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will eat for the rest of his life.” Broaden your horizons by learning the passion you’ve always held at bay. Cooking, a musical instrument, philosophy class you name it and then pay it forward.
This is your 12 month call to action challenge for the New Year. Don’t let it pass you by.
